Programme Overview

The M.A. Urdu (MAUD) programme offered by the School of Humanities, IGNOU, is designed to give an in-depth understanding of Urdu language, literature and cultural heritage. It builds advanced knowledge of Urdu literary traditions and critical analysis, and trains learners in research and in practical areas such as mass media and translation.

Study Method, Credits & Examination

  • 1 credit equals 30 hours of learner’s study time, so an 8-credit course means about 240 hours of study.
  • Study time includes written material, audio-visual material, teleconferences, assignments and activities on platforms such as Gyan Vani, Gyan Darshan, SWAYAM Prabha and eGyanKosh.
  • Term-end examinations are conducted twice a year – in June and December – and learners can choose which session to appear in.
  • The programme starts in two cycles: January and July.
